Finding Nemo Jr. at Marine Village School.
Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo JR. hits the stage at Marine Village School Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m. The charming 60-minute musical — part of the school’s Art and Academics Night — is based on the beloved 2003 Pixar film Finding Nemo. The cast includes the charter school’s entire K-4 student body led by school principal Dr. Kimberly Kokx.

“The big blue world of Finding Nemo JR. is the perfect setting to showcase students’ cross-curricular work,” says Kokx. “We’ve just completed a deep dive into the fascinating realm of marine biomes in our ecology department. Adding a layer of kinesthetic learning through musical theater reinforces those discoveries.”

She points to the school’s recent visit from a real-life dolphin trainer as just one of the special ways students have been preparing for their roles.

“We learned about marine mammal communication, migratory patterns and social behaviors, as well as the value of conservation efforts,” explains Kokx. “That experience, coupled with their classroom studies and stage practice has brought the Finding Nemo JR. story to life in their minds and hearts. Students just couldn’t be more excited to hit the stage later this month— the audience is in for a treat!”

The play features new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, including “Just Keep Swimming,” “Fish Are Friends Not Food,” and “Go With the Flow.” Delightful dialogue, dazzling costumes and immersive sets promise to delight theatergoers young and old.

The Marine Village School Art and Academics Night will also feature a display of student ecology projects as well as the opportunity to bid on student-created oceanographic artwork.
